Studio One Theaters, Northwest's Luxurious Movie Theater and Fine Dining Restaurant Quietly Roars Back to Life!

By Steven Masone

                           Studio One Theaters

STUDIO ONE THEATERS re-launched their luxurious first run Theater and fine dining Dinner Theater concept after almost not making it with a complete shut-down because of the Pandemic. Even though many food operations kept the doors open using outdoor tents and patio service, their location did not afford them that opportunity. Their loyal patrons helped with a crowd funding campaign that made it possible to reopen last Saturday evening with a "Soft Relaunch."  Patrons  can again experience their favorite first run movies thru new and exclusive state of the art immersive technologies including 4K Pure Laser Projection and 128 channel Dolby ATMOS sound. In addition, at Studio One Theaters movies will be enjoyed in one of its proprietary seven (7) Penthouse Theaters, each featuring luxurious custom designed furnishings and thematic decorations. Using a array of visual special effects and creature comforts. The Penthouse Theaters will transport you to some the most beautiful cities of the world including New York, Paris, Tokyo, Rio, and Istanbul. Guests also enjoy full to your seat restaurant and +21 bar service featuring a fresh made from scratch New American and world cuisine menu, gourmet popcorn recipes, over 50 wines by the glass, 12 beers on tap and a full specialty cocktail menu.

Studio One Theaters is also has a fine dinning restaurant / entertainment venue named Studio One Live, where patrons will get to view intimate live music recordings and social media broadcasting experiences. Performances will be conducted on a first of its kind immersive multi-media stage. Studio One Theaters is also one of the most eco-friendly theater complexes in the nation implementing a paperless and plastic free food and beverage program along with an innovative composting and glass recycling program. Studio One Theaters will get back to being open 7 days a week from 11am-Midnight with a special $5 movie and brunch in all the Penthouse as soon as their mostly brand new staff is completely dialed in. After the soft re-launch, it's apparent they are back on track to do so immediately and resume brunches every Saturday and Sunday from 8am-Noon.

However, the first class kitchen staff are already dialed in with returning Chefs Robert Staples, and new addition Greg Thompson absolutely killing it with the fresh seafood and eclectic menu that is what they really are...a 4 to 5 star culinary experience. The opening night special was a Halibut Fillet with a 'fromage sauce', grilled seasoned asparagus spears with a balsamic sauce perfectly drizzled, that was some of the best I've ever tasted. Then, a risotto side ala Romanesco. The Halibut was done to perfection and was the best Halibut dish I've ever had. Owners Shelly Stevens and Rudyard Coltman invite one and all to join them at the best one stop food, movie and entertainment venue in the Northwest.

As always we have Yelp and other reviews below for our readers and more info on thes great Venue.

If 5 is the top score than 5 it is, because this is the best thing to happen to my neighborhood since HUB opened 12 years ago!! It's hard to see from the street, and is surprisingly large once you find it - but if you pull into the O'Reilly auto parts store (next to Natural Grocer) on SE Powell Blvd & Cesar Chavez and go around to the back on the west side - or - pull into the HoHo Chinese restaurant next to the Astro gas station on 39th and Se Powell Blvd (opposite corner from the other entrance that I mentioned), you will spot the lovely raised outdoor living space with sofas and heat lamps.

I'm totally in love with the comfy seats and faux fur throw blankies that make each movie soo comfy to watch!

The brussel sprouts are deee-lish so I ordered them each time I went.  My apologies to the strangers around me, because they taste a whole lot better than the smell (like boiled eggs or broccoli). I also get a glass or 2 of wine because they have a massive selection.

I've seen Downton Abbey in the Paris room, Dirty Dancing (a special screening of the original) in the Tokyo room and The Invisible Man in the New York penthouse. Now I've got to see movies in the Rio, Portland, Istanbul and the private at the end, which seems very secretty... oh la la!

Inside you have a dining area and on certain nights, live music is played.

They have an amazing selection of wines in their wine bar, which you can order and take into the theater.

If you want to get all gussied-up for your movie viewing pleasure - or want to impress someone, this is the place to do it!

5 stars, from start to finish.  This small, locally-owned business does it right!!

In response to having to close the theaters at Studio One, due to Covid, the owners have created a take-out/delivery menu that is to-die-for!!!  There are romance dinner packages, cooking classes you do online with a kit the chef prepares for you, family meals, a kid's menu, and options for all kinds of food preferences and sensitivities.  The owners and staff are very knowledgeable about wine and include amazing wine pairings on their menu.  They have beer too.

Last night, I ordered steak, grilled vegetables, a hummus plate, and chocolate truffles.  In short, everything was perfectly prepared and delicious and I will definitely be ordering dinner from Studio One again.

The more detailed description of my experience goes like this:

Called studio one and Johnny picked up the phone.  He was so friendly and accommodating.  He was careful to check with the kitchen about ingredients I was trying to avoid, when he wasn't sure.  (Sometimes it's like pulling teeth to get the front of house to double-check with the kitchen on ingredients).  Also, Johnny was so happy to switch out fries for mashed potatoes (that go with the steak), more veggies for bread (on the hummus platter), and make the triple truffle dessert all dark chocolate (so I could avoid the dairy.) From the second Johnny answered my call, to the end of the order, I felt like a valued customer.  (Some restaurants in Portland have service that makes me feel like I'm putting people out when I order.  Not at Studio One, though!)

Now to the food!  Fresh and homemade hummus and baba ghanoush, with kalamata olives, cucumbers, carrots, and house pickled green beans.  The steak, cooked to an absolutely perfect medium (as requested), was so tender and perfectly seasoned.  The grilled veggies, marinated in white balsamic, were among the best I've ever had!  Last, but not least, the dark chocolate truffles, freshly hand made on site, were perfection!  Glad there weren't more than three...I might have kept eating until I got sick.  They're a good size and 1 per person is a perfect serving, (although my husband and I finished all 3.  Ok...I ate 2 of them!)

    Way to go, Studio One!

Did an incredible job accommodating an amazing birthday during a difficult time. We loved the food, the environment and the staff and the prices were reasonable.

This place is definitely a step above your typical movie theater.

From the moment you enter, it looks like a fancy bar area with a restaurant (if I remember correctly). We arrived a little early, so our host took our temperatures and had us wait for a little bit while they got our suite prepared. We got the Tokyo themed penthouse.

After things were ready, we were escorted back to it. Once we entered the actual room, we were blown away with the decorations. The host was kind enough to give us a little history of the place before giving us our menus.

There was a large selection when it came to alcohol beverages and a decent selection for food. We both got a burger and fries. It was on the pricier side (expected), but so yummy. Though my boyfriend said it got a little too salty towards the end. My mimosa was good.

We picked The Dark and the Wicked and it was amazingly scary - great choice for our first time here! The only cons for us was that there wasn't enough set places to set our food down and the food was pricier than we'd like. Aside from that, this place is definitely a must-visit.

Oh, and their bathrooms are fancy AF.

Great new addition to the assortment of Portland theatre venues with Studio One definitely kicking it up a notch and providing an upscale experience. With prices to match! Yikes. I'm fine with the price for a move ($13.50) and the dinner options (prices comparable to any nice restaurant downtown) but felt the price for cocktails and wine was on the big side.

Unlike Cinetopia, the Living Room Theatres and the various McMenamins, the food here is fine dining, not pub food. Steak, paper dell I, roasted beet salad, bread pudding.  Yes, they have pizza, but it's really, really good pizza. You can have dinner and drinks in the theatre or if you prefer eating beforehand, there is a restaurant area to the right as you enter. The menu is similar to a fine restaurant in the alphabet district or any of the fabulous neighborhoods that attract great dining establishments.

Our group of 6 tried a variety of dishes. Two people had the pappardelle that was bathed in a rich and flavorful short rib ragu. Portions were large but were fully consumed because it was so delicious. Two people had the NY strip which had a coveted carmelized crust served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. For $29, it was a knockout. Truth be told, they overcooked my steak, which I ordered medium. I think they swapped mine and one of my dinner companions. When I showed the waitress that the meat was cooked with no pink anywhere, she had it remade to perfection. It meant I ate dinner after my friends finished desert, which was a bummer, but it tasted great which is more important.

French onion soup had a dark, rich flavorful broth loaded with caramelized onions and a hearty helping of toasted bread and melted gruyere bubbling on top. Perfect for a rainy evening! The beet salad, roasted eggplant dinner were also delicious. Surprisingly, the simple biscuits with jalapeño butter were divine! I'm not a biscuit person because they often have no flavor of their own. These biscuits were so buttery and the spice from the jalapeño butter a lovely compliment.

The bread pudding with chocolate and caramel sauce was the killer item of the evening. Recommend splitting 4 ways! The Apple crisp left a lot to be desired. Served lukewarm with a crisp that wast not at all crispy, it remained almost untouched.

We did not see a movie; we were there to listen to Trashcan Joe, a band of musicians that play handmade instruments a la The Little Rascals, and perform songs that just make you smile. A guitar made out of two garbage can lids? A cello made brim a wooden broom handle, I think? Amazing how good these instruments sounded at the hands of the talented band. The stage is right in the dining area making it a fun evening of dinner and music.p, with the music not too loud so you could still enjoy conversation.

Will definitely come back for dinner and music or dinner and a movie. The various theatre rooms all have a city theme and an assortment of comfy furniture like you would have at home. It's a nice evening out.

Yes. If you're looking this up right now to see if you should come here for a movie, the answer is yes. This place was awesome! I am so glad that we finally watched a movie here. Worth the drive, worth the time, worth the money. Worth it.

Our movie was a 6:05 pm showing but we arrived a little early because we didn't know what to expect. We had a drink at the bar and sat for a little before we were escorted to our viewing area. My husband ordered pizza and I got the yakisoba and brussel sprouts for dinner. The brussel sprouts were fantastic! The food was great.

I liked everything about this place. I liked the floor and the decor and how each room was different. Such a cool place. The rooms and seats are intimate but we were oh so comfy. I'm coming back for sure.
