Fishing Weekend Shout Out! 10-04-2012

ANDERSON: Lake level is low. It will be closed to boating Oct. 14. Drop-shot with RoboWorms or use half-ounce jigs (green pumpkin). 408-463-0711.
BERRYESSA: Topwater action is good early or late during low light. Go to crankbaits or spinnerbaits late in day. Good number of 3-pound bass are being caught and a few to 5 pounds have been caught. 707-255-5544, 916-502-3474.
CALERO: Lots of grass on edges and anglers are throwing frogs and lipless crankbaits for bass 2 to 3 pounds. 408-268-3883, 408-463-0711.
CHABOT: Trout and catfish bites are slow. Water level is low. Weekly trout plants are under way. 510-247-2526.
CHESBRO: Catfish and bluegill are best bets. Bluegill are in trees near midway point of lake. Catfish are taking mackerel. 408-358-3741, 408-463-0711.
CONTRA LOMA: Fishing is slow. Even catfish are hard to come by. Cooler weather is needed to trigger bite by recently planted trout. 510-544-3154.
DEL VALLE: Catfish bite is solid. Good number of 5- to 13-pound cats are coming from Heron Bay and dam. Smallmouth and largemouth can be caught in upper and lower narrows. Rattletraps, Senkos and jigs


work well. Plant of 4,000 pounds of trout went in earlier in week. Trout fishing remains slow. Water temperature is 77 degrees. 925-449-5201.
LAFAYETTE: Fishing has been off and on. A few catfish are being caught and reports of even fewer trout. Plant of 1,000 pounds of trout is slated for Wednesday. 925-284-9669.
LOCH LOMOND: An 8-pound bass was caught and released. A few trout are being caught as season winds down. Lake closes Oct. 14. 831-335-7424.
LOS VAQUEROS: Recent heat wave put stall on trout bite. Striper bite is slow. 925-371-2628.
QUARRY LAKES: Fishing remains slow. Surface temperature is 71 degrees, and weekly trout plants are under way. A few catfish are being caught at back side of lake. 510-544-3133.
SAN LUIS RESERVOIR: Striper bite has slowed. A cooling trend will turn bite around. 408-463-0711.
SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Weekly trout plants of at least 1,000 pounds are going in. Best bite has been near Rock Wall. A 10-pound catfish was caught from Scow Canyon. Bass are chasing swimbaits and crankbaits near Sandy Point and points at mouth of Scow Canyon. A troller pulling a broken-back fire tiger Rapala on Sunday caught four spotted bass, a catfish and a 2-pound trout. 510-223-1661.
SHADOW CLIFFS: Trout plant of 500 pounds went in this week, but cool weather is needed for fish to get active. 510-544-3230, 925-426-0197.
UVAS: Bass bite is decent in evening with topwater lures. 408-463-0711.
ANTIOCH: Striped bass are near Honker Bay, Broad Slough and Sherman Slough. Live mudsuckers offered in shallow water have been effective. 925-706-7400.
BENICIA: Striped bass are hitting at 12th Street, 9th Street, underneath Bridge and night fishing at 1st Street. Bass to 30 inches are taking bullhead or blood worms. Salmon bite is fair. About 15 per day are caught at State Park and eight to nine are caught at 9th Street. Sturgeon bite is good at Big Cut and Middle Grounds. 707-745-4921.
PITTSBURG: Striped bass and sturgeon are biting. Both can be caught near Chain Island. Three keeper sturgeon were caught Wednesday on grass shrimp/eel combination. Striper prefer mudsucker and bullhead. Honker Bay, Broad Slough are good striper options, too. 925-252-0151.
RIO VISTA: Striped bass are moving in. Decker Island has been a good spot. Three Mile Slough and Seven Mile Slough are good for striped bass. A 44-pound striper was caught trolling west bank near Sandy Beach. Salmon bite is good near Isleton at mouth of Sacramento River. 707-374-2372.
TRACY: Channel catfish bite is entertaining shore anglers on Grimes Road. Lots of small stripers in area. Largest last week was a 5-pounder. Shad is best bait. An 8.97-pound black bass was caught by Rick Degaetano in Sunday's bass tournament. 209-835-3182.
BERKELEY: New El Dorado III on Tuesday had 16 salmon to 23 pounds for nine. There has been a good bite off Muir Beach last 10 days. Albacore trips Friday and Saturday came back with 20 to 30 fish working 10 to 15 miles off islands. Wind came up Monday and cut scores a bit. Happy Hooker on Sunday went to San Pablo Bay and had 18 limits of stripers to 12 pounds. Most were 5 to 6 pounds. First limits of striped bass all year. 510-849-3333, 510-223-5388, 707-334-4827.
BODEGA BAY: Rock cod limits are norm. Albacore have moved within 30 miles of Bodega Bay at Cordell Banks. Trips are scheduled for next week. Reservations are being accepted for Nov. 3 crab/cod opener. 707-875-3344.
CAPITOLA: Swell has picked up and slowed rock cod fishing. A 53-pound white sea bass was caught Saturday on a live sardine. Bass are being caught past Santa Cruz, too. There are some sardines and medium-sized anchovies near pier. There are salmon near SC3 and SC4 buoys. 831-462-2208.
EMERYVILLE: Salmon bite is good along Muir Beach. Rock Cod fishing is solid. On Tuesday, New Huck Finn went to islands for 21 limits of cod and 36 lings. New Salmon Queen on Tuesday had 55 albacore to 30 pounds for 12 anglers. Next trips are Friday and Sunday. 510-654-6040.
MONTEREY: Ling cod/rock cod trips at Point Sur have been excellent. Charter boats haven't been able to get white sea bass, but smaller skiffs are getting bass just off Del Monte Beach. 831-375-5951, 831-372-7440.
MOSS LANDING: Tuesday's albacore trip had 21 for 13 anglers. Sunday the score was 63 for 12. 831-633-2564.
PACIFICA: Rubberlip perch bite is decent at Rockaway Beach and from Pacifica Pier. 650-355-8303, 650-359-9790.
PILLAR POINT: Queen of Hearts gets limits of rock cod every trip. Lot of black cod are being caught. Handful of ling cod are being taken each trip. Weekend albacore trip by Mooch Better came back with 39 albacore. Connie O is going out Friday. 650-726-7133, 510-581-2628.
SAN FRANCISCO: A few striped bass have been caught from Oyster Point Pier, but most action is on sharks. There are perch. 650-589-3474, 510-703-4148.
SAN PABLO BAY: Striped bass can be caught with bullhead, shiners or pile worms along China Camp shoreline. Trolling at top of tide is good for bass to 25 inches. 415-456-0321.
SUISUN BAY: Striper bite continues to be strong at pier and Mothball Fleet. Bullhead and grass shrimp get stripers 25 to 35 inches. Incoming tide has been best. 925-229-9420
