Fishing Week-End Shout Out! 10-24-26 2012

ANTIOCH: Striper fishing is excellent. Dozens of keepers caught Tuesday night from Antioch Pier. 925-706-7400
BENICIA: Salmon numbers dropping. Stripers continue to be caught at 9th and 12th streets. Sturgeon bite picked up at Middle Grounds and Big Cut. Use eel or grass shrimp. 707-745-4921
FRANKS TRACT: Striped bass anglers use swimbaits (anything white), Rattletraps or bluegills. Cooler weather will bring more stripers. Black bass are being caught in good numbers but area small. Crankbaits work best. 925-625-2441
PITTSBURG: Sturgeon bite is good at Buoy 2, Buoy 3, PG&E plant and Little Cut. Use grass shrimp or ghost shrimp with eel. Last two hours and first two hours of each tide are good. 925-252-0151
RIO VISTA: Salmon fishing remains decent for those trolling with Silvertron spinners from Rio Vista Bridge past Isleton and into Walnut Grove. Striped bass found throughout river. 707-374-2372, 916-777-6498
TRACY: Grant Line Canal is kicking out striped bass to 14 pounds, most are 4 to 7 pounds. Topwater lures commonly employed. 209-835-3182

ANDERSON: Shore fishing only. Some are fishing dam with dart-headed RoboWorms. Some 1- to 2-pound bass are being caught. 408-463-0711
CALERO: Fish deep with drop-shot with 5-inch Senkos or spoon. Action is fair for bass to 3 pounds. 408-463-0711
CHABOT: Trout bite is improving, and catfish bite continues to be good. Trout can be caught from shore with chartreuse Power Bait and sliding sinker cast into 20 feet of water. Trollers pull fire tiger Rapalas across surface in Half Moon Bay and near dam. 510-247-2526
CHESBRO: Some bass are taking spinnerbaits or shallow-running crankbaits. Action is so-so. 408-463-0711
CONTRA LOMA: Trout fishing has picked up after two plants last week. Try using variety of Power Baits or nightcrawlers at boat ramp area. 510-544-3154
COYOTE: Small bass are being caught via drop-shotting. 408-463-0711
DEL VALLE: Trout bite is coming on. Best in Narrows and near dam. South end is starting to pick up. Water temperature is 61 degrees. A few stripers are being caught near dam. Smallmouth are off points and willing to take topwater lures. 925-449-5201


1,000 pounds went in Tuesday bringing two-week total to 4,000 pounds. Catfish still being caught, but are moving deeper. Bass still being difficult and wary. 925-284-9669

LOS VAQUEROS: Boaters are trolling for stripers with Rattletraps or broken-back Rapalas. Shore anglers get trout. A plant of 1,200 pounds went in Tuesday. Three tons of trout have been planted in two weeks. 925-371-2628
QUARRY LAKES: Fall trout bite is under way. Power Bait (pumpkin, green), grubs and Kastmasters will work. Limits being caught everywhere. 510-544-3133
SAN LUIS RESERVOIR: Striper bite is decent. Leader in Coyote Bait & Tackle Striper Derby is 251/2 inches. Main bite is on jumbo minnows near Trash Racks or Basalt. Entry to derby is free with any $10 purchase and longest bass takes $150 rod-reel combo. 408-463-0711
SAN PABLO RESERVOIR: Trout action good for shore anglers at Sandy Point and Main Recreation Area. Boaters troll 18 feet deep with broken-back fire tiger Rapala's (J7). 510-223-1661
SHADOW CLIFFS: Trout bite has picked up. There've been four plants in last three weeks. 510-544-3230

NAPA: Striper bite is good through length of river. Trollers finding clear water will find fish. Bait anglers using bullhead or mudsuckers get fish. Sturgeon becoming more active on lower river. 707-255-5544

CAPITOLA: Rock cod fishing picked up with calmer water. Boats are going outside kelp beds and use shrimp flies or fresh squid for decent sized cod. 831-462-2208
EMERYVILLE: Last salmon trip Saturday had 11 to 21 pounds for 19 anglers. Rock cod trips to Farallons get daily limits. 510-654-6040

SAN FRANCISCO: Handful of halibut caught over weekend. Best was 16 pounds caught by a kayak angler near swirl. Same angler caught four undersized halibut. Otherwise, it's slow. 650-589-3474, 510-703-4148
SAN PABLO BAY: Shore fishing for stripers good. Use bullhead, mudsuckers or shiners along China Camp shoreline. Bass to 30 inches being caught. Most are 4 to 6 pounds. Live bait drifters get larger fish. 415-456-0321
SUISUN BAY: Striped bass are in shallows of Avon Slough, Montezuma Slough and Horeshoe. Bullhead work best. Sturgeon bite was good during last week's big tides. Horeshoe is a good spot. 925-229-9420, 916-777-6498
