WALNUT GROVE, CA - A drowning victim was pulled from the Mokelumne River near the Walnut Grove Marina after he jumped from a pylon on Sunday.
The 21-year-old man jumped, hit the water face-first and never resurfaced, said emergency responders on the scene.
The young man was said to be jumping off of a pylon and into the water at the time. Emergency officials say he had made previous jumps during the day with the last jump being over 40 feet.
"He climbed on the shorter one two times before and jumped off it in the past and did tricks and flips and stuff. This time, he was going to the higher one," says Deputy Mark Warren with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Divers recovered the body shortly after 7 p.m. after searching the water for about three and a half hours.

At the river, family consoled one another. "He's a nice young man. It's horrible he should die. He's a straight clean-cut kid," said Dennis Fay, a family friend.
A relative had attempted to rescue the young man but was unsuccessful due to low visibilty in the water.
Authorities say that alcohol was not a factor in the victim's death.
