A large fire destroyed two condemned, abandoned buildings Friday evening in the center of Isleton.
The buildings were located at the corner of 2nd and A street. Fire officials said the structures had been deemed unsafe about three years ago.
"They condemned it because a lot of the studs were taken out of it. The walls had buckled a little bit. So we absolutely from the beginning of this fire never sent anybody in," said Assistant Fire Chief Dan Schindler of the Montezuma Fire Department.

Faded signs on one of the buildings indicated it used to house a Mexican restaurant and a mini-mart. Some residents said they had heard that transients may have been living in the buidlings.
Fire officials said there was no immediate determination of a cause.
"We've got a couple of things on lead right now, but we've got to investigate (them) before we do anything," said Schindler.
Several residents described the buildings as "eyesores" and said that they were glad to see them go. No one was injured.
