Rio Vista will celebrate the 65th anniversary of is annual Bass Derby on Oct. 12-14.
The West Coast's oldest derby continues to keep things interesting for the anglers by adding new categories and occasionally changing the format. Organizers say this year's event will include a wide array of fun and frolic, recreational activities and contests for both the young and young at heart.
The centerpieces of the celebration will be the 65th Annual Fishing Contest. Some 900 fishermen will cast their reels into the Rio Vista Delta for a chance to win prizes. The downtown area will have the California Carnival, Soap Box Derby, Parade, Five local Bands, Car Show & Cruise, Karaoke Idol Contest and an array of Food and Arts & Crafts vendors. An early morning rummage sale is set for Saturday Oct. 13 and there will be the annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast.
The parade will be held on Sunday morning, Oct. 14.
Anglers, young and old, looking for a few free fishing tips, are invited to attend the California Striped Bass Association Fishing Seminar to be held at the foot of Main Street in Downtown Rio Vista on Saturday September 29. Tickets for the Derby ($35.00), the Kid's Derby ($5.00) and the 14' Mirro Craft Boat raffle ($10 each) will be on sale at the seminar. T-shirts and hats will also be available for sale.
