A 22-year-old Clarksburg man drowned after the car he was driving went off the road and overturned in a drainage ditch southeast of Clarksburg.
Officer Jon Kitamura of the California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred sometime between 8 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 this morning.
The driver, whose name has not been released, left his home about 8 p.m. and when he hadn't returned this morning to accompany a relative to work, family members began searching for him. They discovered a 1997 Volvo on its roof in a water-filled ditch off Z Line Road, Kitamura said. He said the driver was unable to escape from the vehicle after it overturned.
Robert LaBrash, Yolo County chief deputy coroner, said the cause of death was drowning.
The Yolo coroner was dispatched to the scene shortly after 7 a.m.
