Traffic was backed up in both directions on Highway 12 outside of Isleton on Wednesday after a fatal crash involving a big rig.
The crash between the big rig and a Volkswagen car occurred at about 5:30 a.m. along Brannan Isle Road.
The female driver of the Volkswagen car was killed in the crash. The driver of the big rig and his passenger were taken to Lodi Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries.
The California Highway Patrol said the big rig was going westbound and the car was going eastbound when for unknown reasons the Volkswagen drifted into big rig's lane. Investigators told reporters, the driver of the big rig didn't have time to get out of the car's way. Both vehicles overturned into a ditch.
The CHP said the big rig had a full load of the energy drink Red Bull, so it could take several hours to get it upright and towed away.
One-way traffic control is in effect until around noon on Highway 12, and motorists in both directions should expect delays, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim's identity has not been released.
The road is not expected to fully reopen until 10:30 a.m.
